    Dear Mr. Schmitt,

I was researching the name of Gisselle Freund, a well known German/French photographer, wondering if she was related to Karl Freund. I found your posting for KF and read on. Wow, what a great job you have done with his entry and by the looks of it, with much of your work.

I just wanted to congratulate you on your research and efforts, well done. By the way, do you know if Gisele Freund is related to Karl? They were more or less contemporaries, both escaping Nazi Germany, but she went to France with Walter Benjamin.

Keep up the great work, and thanks

Simon, thank you very much. There’s still a lot of work to be done on Karl Freund’s biography, but it’s a real passion of mine and sooner or later it will get done. As for Gisselle Freund, I have wondered the same thing. The timing is about right, and it would not be surprising. I have so far dismissed it as a coincidence, because I haven’t seen a biography make the connection. I could ask Karl’s grandson and see if he knows more.
